Unprecedented civilian protests in China, govt hints at relaxing Covid curbs

University students have been sent home and security forces have been deployed in large numbers on the streets of capital Beijing and Shanghai to quash dissent after days of protests against the government's stringent Covid control measures. The protests slowly spread to over a dozen cities and China resorted to detention, surveillance and censorship to quell further dissent amid a record spike in Covid cases in the country. Although authorities have relaxed some Covid restrictions, like mandatory testing and long quarantine periods in some regions, they have maintained that the 'zero-Covid' policy is here to stay.

Enforcement Directorate arrests businessman Amit Arora in Delhi liquor policy case

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Wednesday arrested Amit Arora, a close associate of Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, in liquor policy case. Arora is the director of Gurugram-based Buddy Retail. A total of five people have been arrested by the ED in the Delhi Excise policy money laundering case till now. The financial probe agency has so far undertaken 169 search operations in the case, filed after taking cognisance of a CBI FIR which was registered on the recommendation of the Delhi Lieutenant Governor.

Aaftab admits to killing Shraddha in polygraph test; Waqf board plans to start self-funded schools

Aaftab Ameen Poonawala, accused in the Shraddha Walkar murder case, who underwent a polygraph test on Tuesday, confessed that he has no remorse for killing his live-in partner. Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) officials said that Aaftab confessed to killing Shraddha Walkar and said he has no guilt about the crime he committed. Meanwhile, the Karnataka Waqf board is planning to start schools and colleges with its own funding in the state. According to Shafi Sadi, Karnataka Waqf board chairman, students in these institutions will be allowed to wear hijabs to class, unlike in government schools and colleges.

Week after hack, AIIMS eHospital data restored

AIIMS issued a statement on Tuesday saying that the e-Hospital data has been restored on servers. It was feared that the data of crores of patients could have been compromised due to the alleged breach detected in the hospital's servers on November 23. A high-level meeting was called by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Tuesday regarding the ongoing server issue at the All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS) in the national capital. Senior officials of the Intelligence Bureau (IB), AIIMS, National Informatics Centre (NIC), National Investigation Agency (NIA), MHA and Delhi Police were present at the meeting which lasted for hours.
