By Janani K: Thalapathy Vijay's Varisu is currently progressing at a brisk pace in Hyderabad. The film landed in trouble recently after Animal Welfare Board of India issued a show cause notice the team. In the notice, the AWBI specified that the makers of Varisu did not obtain prior permission to use elephants for shooting. The Varisu team has been asked to share their explanation on the violations within seven days.

AWBI ISSUES SHOW CAUSE NOTICE TO VARISU TEAM

Thalapathy Vijay's Varisu will hit the theatres on Pongal 2023. The film will clash at the box office with Ajith Kumar's Thunivu.

On November 23, the Animal Welfare Board of India sent a show cause notice to the Varisu team after they used five elephants for shooting without obtaining the necessary permission.

The notice read, "In this regard, it is stated that as per Rule 3(1) of the Performing Animals Registration) Rules, 2001, every person has to register with the Board if the animals are being exhibited or trained. It is also informed that exhibiting the animals without permission of the Board is an offense under Section 26 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960."

According to the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972 and as per Rule 7(2) of the Performing Animals (Registration) Rules, 2001, it is necessary to get prior permission for shooting with performing animals in films.

The Varisu team has been asked to give a full explanation of the said violation within seven days of receiving the letter. AWBI also threatened to take action if the Varisu team failed to reply.

Varisu is tipped to be an emotional family entertainer directed by Vamshi Paidipally. Going by the first-look poster, Vijay is likely to play the role of a businessman in the film. Rashmika Mandanna has been roped in to play the female lead. The shooting of Varisu is currently progressing at a brisk pace. Composer S Thaman has been roped in to compose the music.
