Vivek Agnihotri's The Kashmir Files honoured at IFFI in Goa. Anupam Kher delivers powerful speech

Vivek Agnihotri's directorial The Kashmir Files received an honour at the International Film Festival of India (IFFI). Anupam Kher, who played a significant role in the film, delivered a powerful speech at the event.

By Prachi Arya: Filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri's directorial The Kashmir Files, which earned appreciation from all corners, was a huge box office success. The film minted more than Rs 250 crore at the ticket windows. It was now honoured at the ongoing International Film Festival of India held in Goa. There was also a special screening held which was attended by Anupam Kher. The actor gave a powerful speech at the event. The Kashmir Files, which released in the theatres on March 11, is based on the exodus of Kashmiri Hindus during the Kashmir insurgency in 1990. It stars Anupam Kher, Darshan Kumaar, Mithun Chakraborty and Pallavi Joshi.



The Kashmir Files, which was both nationally and internationally acclaimed, was selected for the Indian Panorama Section of the IFFI (International Film Festival of India). The film was screened on November 22 in Goa. Producer Abhishek Agarwal and Anupam Kher graced the event and took the honour on behalf of the entire team.


Earlier, The Kashmir Files was the official selection for the Seattle Film Festival and Awareness Film Festival. Anupam Kher took to Twitter and shared a video from IFFI 2022 while addressing the crowd and thanking them for all the love they have bestowed upon the film. "The film, I would say, is a feeling for me and is really close to my heart. The truth that we have tried to show through the film, was hidden for 32 years, which showed thousands being killed in a day. It is a story about the genocide of Kashmiri Hindus and pandits. Everybody knows about it but there was just one person, Vivek Agnihotri, who thought of making a film out of it."

Anupam Kher, who was overwhelmed to receive the award, captioned the video on Twitter as, "Great to be at the 53rd edition of @IFFIGoa representing #TheKashmirFiles. In the last 38 years that I have attended this festival, celebrating world cinema, it has come a long way. Congratulations to everybody for the spectacular organisational display of hard work and talent (sic)."


The Kashmir Files is based on the life of Kashmiri Pandits in 1990, during the Kashmir insurgency. The film is a true story, based on video interviews of the first generation victims of The Kashmir Genocide of the Kashmiri Pandit Community. It’s a heart-wrenching narrative of the pain, suffering, struggle and trauma of Kashmiri pandits which also questions eye-opening facts about democracy, religion, politics and humanity.

Directed by Vivek Agnihotri, the film is bankrolled by Tej Narayan Agarwal, Abhishek Agarwal, Pallavi Joshi and Vivek Agnihotri under the Zee Studios, IAmBuddha and Abhishek Agarwal Arts banners. The ensemble cast comprises Mithun Chakraborty as Brahma Dutt, Anupam Kher as Pushkarnath, Darshan Kumar as Krishna Pandit, Pallavi Joshi as Radhika Menon, Bhasha Sumbali as Shraddha Pandit, Chinmay Mandlekar as Farooq Malik aka Bitta (Inspired by Farooq Ahmed Dar), Puneet Issar as DGP Hari Narain


On the work front, 2022 turned out to be a great year for Anupam Kher as he delivered two hit films at the box office. After Vivek Agnihotri's The Kashmir Files, the senior actor was seen in Karthikeya 2 with Nikhil Siddhartha. Currently, he is basking in the success of his latest release, Uunchai along with Amitabh Bachchan, Boman Irani and Parineeti Chopra. The film, directed by Sooraj Barjatya, was released on November 11, 2022.
