Uttarakhand resort receptionist 'murdered' on premises, Congress alleges accused linked to BJP

A 19-year-old girl went missing five days ago inside a resort in Uttarakhand's Pauri Garhwal. Three persons, including the resort owner, have been arrested as they confessed to 'throwing’ her into a water channel. Meanwhile, the Congress has alleged the BJP's hand in the girl's death.

According to Uttarakhand Police, a search operation is underway to recover the girl's body.

Senior BJP leader Vinod Arya's son, Pulkit Arya, has been arrested for the murder of a 19-year-old woman who worked as a receptionist at his private resort in Uttarakhand's Pauri Garhwal. He had reported her missing, as did her family, but police said it later turned out he, along with two staff members, had killed her.

The accused, Pulkit Arya and the girl's family had filed a missing persons complaint with the local revenue official. Later, the Uttarakhand Police took over the case and an FIR was registered on September 22.

"The girl was missing for five days. The area falls under the revenue police jurisdiction. A missing complaint was filed with the revenue police. The case was transferred to Laxman Jhula Police on Thursday and within 24 hours all three accused were arrested," Uttarakhand DGP Ashok Kumar told India Today.

The accused have been identified as the resort owner Pulkit Arya, assistant manager Ankit Gupta and manager Saurabh Bhaskar. The accused have confessed that they pushed her into a waterchannel near the resort after a personal dispute, following which she drowned, the cops said.

There have been allegations that the girl was being forced into prostitution, but police said the claim hasn't been established yet.

According to Uttarakhand Police, a search operation is underway to recover the girl's body from the water channel. An investigation is underway to determine the motive behind the murder.

Meanwhile, Garima Dhasoni, spokesperson of the Uttarakhand Congress, told India Today that Vinod Arya, one of the accused in the case, is linked to the BJP. Pulkit Arya is the son of former minister Vinod Arya and brother of Ankit Arya, the sitting vice-chairperson of Uttrakhand OBC Welfare Commission.

Responding to the incident, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami promised "harshest action" no matter who's involved.

"This is a very sad incident, a very heinous crime. The police have done all the work regarding the arrest. The harshest action will be taken. Whoever the culprit is, will not be spared," CM Dhami said.
