At least nine people were rescued after a house collapsed due to heavy rainfall in Uttar Pradesh's Aligarh district on Thursday night. The incident happened at 3 am in the night when nine people who were sleeping in the house were trapped under the rubble. Soon after the house collapsed, locals rushed to the spot and rescued the nine people who suffered minor injuries.
However, a pet dog of the house owner died after being buried alive under the debris.
House owner, Rahul Gupta, said that the house was very old and it has been raining continuously for the past several days, leading to waterlogging and inundated streets. The house collapsed due to rain but all the people were rescued and no casualties were reported, said Rahul.
UP's Aligarh has been witnessing incessant rainfall for the last five days, leading to inundated roads and streets. Normal life has been thrown out of gear as rainwater has been gushing into the houses of the locals due to inundated streets.
Power system in these areas have also collapsed due to heavy rainfall.
Several incidents of house collapse have been reported in the district. Two days ago, a house collapsed in the Bania Pada Kotwali police station area. Meanwhile, another house collapsed in Dohri village of Akrabad police station area, in which a mother-son duo was injured.
Meanwhile, DM Inder Vikram Singh, has ordered that in view of rainfall, all schools from Class 1 to 12, including AMU in the district, will remain shut today and tomorrow.
