By India Today Web Desk: Responding to Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot's 'traitor' remark about him, Congress MLA from Tonk Sachin Pilot on Thursday said that "name-calling and mud-slinging serve no purpose".

Sachin Pilot said Gehlot has been calling him "nikamma, naakara, gaddar and so on" but it was not part of his upbringing to use such language.

In an interview with NDTV, Ashok Gehlot on Thursday called Pilot a "gaddar" (traitor) and said he can never be made the chief minister of Rajasthan. Gehlot also said that Pilot was not competent to replace him as the chief minister as he had revolted against the Congress in 2020 and attempted to topple the government.

"I have seen Ashok Gehlot ji's statements today aimed against me. Someone who is so experienced, senior and whom party has given so much, it is unbecoming of someone with such experience to use this language, make such completely false and baseless allegations," news agency PTI quoted Sachin Pilot as saying.

"It serves no purpose when we have to fight BJP unitedly....previously also Ashok Gehlot ji has been making such allegations against me for a long time," the former Union minister said.

"Rahul Gandhi is on Bharat Jodo Yatra and we all need to jointly make the yatra successful. The only party that can challenge the BJP is Congress. We need to challenge BJP in all ruling states," Sachin Pilot said.

"BJP was poorly defeated in Rajasthan when I was the party president. Still, the Congress president gave another chance to Gehlot to become the CM. Today, the priority should be on how we can again win the Rajasthan election," Congress MLA from Tonk said.
