Saravanan, a resident of Sekizhar Street in Puducherry’s Viswanathan Nagar was in shock after seeing his electricity bill. Saravanan, who is a TV mechanic during the day and a watchman during the night, had received a bill of Rs 12,91,845 from the EB department for July.
While his previous reading was 20,630, the present reading given in the bill was 2,11,150, stating that he had consumed 1,90,520 units. Saravanan, who lives in a rented house and regularly pays around Rs 600-700 a month, said that he was shocked upon seeing the bill.
“I have already gone to the EB office thrice, but they have been asking me to come later. There are only 5 digits in the reading machine and god knows how they have written six digits?”
Upon contacting the EB officials, they said that it was a technical error and that the zero was added by mistake. The error has since been rectified.
