Heavy rains kill 2 in UP's Firozabad; people forced to take shelter on roof

Heavy rainfall in Uttar Pradesh's Firozabad has triggered severe water logging and flood-like situation in several localities. The crisis peaked due to incessant downpours that did not stop since 11 am on Thursday and visuals accessed by India Today showed that residents, cattle, and pets walked through neck-deep water on roads.

Sources said that residents are fearful of venturing out while many have taken refuge on higher surfaces and their terraces.

Other visuals showed motorcycles, and cars, including heavy vehicles like LCVs (light commercial vehicles).

"A motorcycle was seen floating in the water," the source said while explaining the plight of eight lakh populace in the city.

Sources said that the situation derailed to an extent that patients who were admitted to the Government Medical College faced issues. The hospital was waterlogged while the shops situated on the premises were flooded, as per sources.

FIROZABAD RAINS KILL TWO

Amounting to severe damage following torrential rains, a house collapsed in Shikohabad wherein a 6-year-old child was crushed to death. Another individual, identified as Ishaq Ali, was killed after a house collapsed in Jasrana while seven people were severely injured and one of the firefighters on the site was injured too.

Also, more than 100 vehicles parked in the locality of the Buddhist ashram of Firozabad were submerged in visuals accessed. In the same Ramgarh police station area, 35 to 40 vehicles were drowned in Jatavpuri.

Also, residents were carrying out rescue operations by their own means.

The worst-affected areas with severe waterlogging situations included areas of Buddhist Ashram Jatavpuri, Suhag Nagar, New Aadi Rasulpur Ramgarh, and Shikohabad.

In view of waterlogging in the city, the local administration called off Ramlila Mahotsav which was scheduled for Thursday.
