The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Friday apprehended a Chief General Manager (CGM) in the regional office of the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) in Patna, Bihar, for accepting Rs 5 lakh as a bribe.
The accused was identified as Sadre Alam. He was apprehended along with two employees of a private company, including the bribe giver.
The NHAI official was apprehended after a case was registered against him and others on the allegations of demanding bribes from the officials of a private company based in Nashik in return for clearing inflated bills, manipulating measurement books, etc.
Searches were conducted at eight different places and Rs 60 lakh cash was also recovered from the premises of the official. Searches are going on.
