Hundreds of residents gathered to stage a protest against BJP MP Locket Chatterjee, who was on a visit to Bengal's Shantiniketan to meet the family of a five-year-old boy found dead at the house of his neighbour on September 20.

The BJP, which had raised the issue in the Assembly, alleged that the ruling Trinamool Congress engineered the protest.

After facing resistance from local residents, Locket Chatterjee protested in front of Shantiniketan police station against police inaction and the law and order situation in the state.

The situation remains tense in the Santiniketan area of Birbhum where the boy was found dead a day earlier. The boy went missing on Sunday from Moldanga village and after around 50 hours his body was recovered from the terrace of a neighbour's home. Soon after, the house was ransacked and torched by a mob.

Meanwhile, the police have arrested a woman, from whose house the body was found in a plastic bag.

Ever since the child went missing, the village has been on the edge. A huge number of police personnel have been deployed in the area after the incident.
